Balancing Self-Respect and Altruism: A Personal Reflection

Growing up with a compassionate and generous mother, I was inspired to emulate her selfless nature, believing that sharing our blessings with others was a noble endeavor. As an adult, I embraced this philosophy, finding joy in helping those in need without any expectations in return. However, recent experiences have left me pondering if my intentions were misunderstood or if my actions were perceived as intrusive. Encountering someone with a different perspective on giving has been challenging. Despite my sincere desire to assist and bring happiness, my offers were rejected, and I was labeled as bothersome and stubborn. A recent incident where I attempted to support a close friend during their battle with COVID-19 left me feeling hurt, not just due to the rejection, but because my efforts seemed unappreciated.
